Plane Thoughts

This project is about an old growth Tawa forest, 6 mm steel, building a three dimensional object out of a two dimensional material, and sleeping without fear of mammalian attack

Nestled within a precious forest, Plane Thoughts allows for sleeping out under the stars, suspended above the earth. The structure slips away, the black steel posts sitting within the dark Tawa trunks.

The project subverts the typical relationship in which surfaces frame three dimension space, using the unwavering flatness of the steel to decrease the power of the geometry; the single choice of form and material works in favour of a quieter structure, allowing the loud, proud, and enthralling surrounds to overtake, astonish, and outshine.
